SAMARINDA, August 13th, 2026 – The Gazebo D2 at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Mulawarman, turned into a hub of adventure, strategy, and laughter on Thursday as SOCIETEA – FISIP The English Atelier held its third English Day.
Around 20 to 25 participants gathered to play Dungeons & Dragons, Halma, and UNO Stacko. The rule was simple, throughout the event, everyone had to communicate in English, even if only a little at a time. There were no lectures and no tests, just games, laughter, and conversation.

Speaking Practice, Without the Pressure.
According to SOCIETEA board member Maulana Ihsan Zaki, English Day was designed as a space for students to build their English speaking skills in a more relaxed way.
“Itu sebagai wadah untuk melatih kemampuan speaking bahasa Inggris dengan cara yang fun dan engaging. As for why it’s a SOCIETEA agenda, it’s because it aligns with SOCIETEA’s overall goal to shape students’ confidence in speaking the language,” explained Zaki.
A Future Brighter Than I Had Ever Imagined
The turnout and energy of this edition were beyond what the organizers had anticipated. According to Head of SOCIETEA, Keysha Miranda Manopo, the event stood out from the community’s earlier editions.
“I have to say, our 3rd English Day has exceeded my expectations. The previous ones were never this big and lively,” shared Manopo.
The enthusiasm was evident in how long the participants stayed. The event was officially scheduled to wrap up at 3:00 PM local time (WITA), but the games and conversations carried on well beyond that.
“We were supposed to end by 3PM, but some of us managed to stay at the venue until 5:30PM. We even managed to recruit a few new members during the event,” Manopo said.
The new recruits mark a step forward for the community, which relies on the energy of its staff and members to keep its activities running. Manopo credited that team effort for the day’s success.
“I sincerely thank all the staff and members for their contributions. This gives mea glimpse of SOCIETEA’s future, and it’s brighter than I had ever imagined,” she continued.
Looking Ahead: A Wider Mix of Majors
Looking toward future editions, SOCIETEA hopes to open its doors to a broader range of students across the faculty. Participants at English Day 3 came largely from one study program, and Manopo said she would like to see that change.
“I hope that the participants will have even more variety next time. The International Relations students were all very nice, but it would be great to see more students from other majors in FISIP,” she added.
